Early Years and Education

Introduction

At age 3, Jannine Nicholas memorized the Lord's Prayer and recited it daily. Like her brother Paul, she wrote out the Word of God, completing 24 books of the Bible. Her brother Paul, by age 17, had written out 54 books and entered Cambridge University. Read Paul's story here.

Jannine attended Alleyn's Junior School, Townley Road, Dulwich SE22. In 2000/2001, Form 5W, she sat alongside Anna Putt and Augustus Lonsdale, with Class Teacher Miss W. Tyler, Alexander Ooi, and Angeli Jeyarajah behind. Miss Tyler, who left in January 2002 for Dean Close Preparatory School, motivated Jannine's academic excellence. The Headmistress was Mrs. Bridget Weir, and Dr. Colin Niven was Headmaster of the Senior School.

At age 5, Jannine passed an entrance exam at Alleyn's, securing one of 16 spots from 200 applicants. Five of these 16 later attended Cambridge University. At age 11, she won scholarships to St. Dunstan's College and Sydenham High School, with her name in 'The Times' on 25th June 2002 for a top award at St. Dunstan's.

Academic Milestones

September 2006

In Year 10 at Old Palace School, Jannine earned an A* in her first GCSE (Astronomy) after nine months of study, sitting the exam on 13th June 2006.

March 2007

Jannine won a Gold Certificate in the UK Senior Mathematical Challenge, ranking in the top 6% for mathematical reasoning and fluency.

May 2007

Jannine began her GCSEs with a French Oral on 1st May 2007, concluding with Physics and French on 15th June. Old Palace School offered Sixth Form scholarships for the first time in 118 years, and Jannine was a contender.

August 2007

On 23rd August 2007, Jannine achieved 11 A* GCSEs (Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, English, English Literature, German, Latin, French, History, Astronomy). The Croydon Advertiser featured her on 31st August. Dr. Judy Harris awarded her a 50% Sixth Form scholarship.

January 2009

St. John's College, Cambridge offered Jannine a conditional place for a BA in Law, requiring top A-level grades. She also received an offer from the London School of Economics.

August 2009

On 20th August 2009, Jannine scored 96% in Economics, 91% in Chemistry, 89% in Mathematics, and 87% in Latin, securing her Cambridge place (confirmed 22nd August).

St John's College

Jannine matriculated at St. John's College, Cambridge in October 2009, one of eight global Law students accepted. Founded by Lady Margaret Beaufort, the college has notable alumni including nine Nobel Prize winners and six Prime Ministers. Jannine read Proverbs daily with her father before leaving, covering it over 60 times.

In 2010, she became Secretary of The Winfield Society, and in October 2011, President, delivering the Winfield Dinner address on 11th February 2012 to legal luminaries.

On 28th June 2012, Jannine graduated with a BA (Hons) in Law, with Professor C.M. Dobson saying: "Auctoritate mihi commissa admitto te ad gradum Baccalaurei in Artibus, in nomine Patris et Filii et Spiritus Sancti."

Historical Note

Old Palace, a former summer residence for Archbishops of Canterbury for 500 years, welcomed figures like Henry VIII and Elizabeth I. Archbishop John Whitgift founded the Whitgift Foundation.
